How To Use

How to Rig a Fenderboard

Step 1 - Hang Fenders

Hang two fenders 3-4 feet apart, one on either side of the exposed piling. Adjust the fenders' height so the top of the fender rests just below your boat's rub rail. Ideally the two fenders are set at the same height.

Step 2 - Secure the Hanging Lines to the Fenderboard

Feed both lines through one of the large cut-outs in the back of the board. Pull the line through the small ½” top exit hole until the knotted end rests flush inside the 1.5” recessed cutout. The knot “stops” the rope, and the recess prevents chaffe from occurring on the rope. If a knot ever comes loose or undone, re-tie with a simple barrel knot. You will only need to set the hanging rope into the board for their first use.

Step 3 - Fasten the Hanging Lines to Your Boat's Handrails

Lay the board stainless steel rail-side down on the deck, with the ½” line exit holes  facing the rail. Align the center of the board with the piling. Check that the Fenderboard's lines are fit for service, then tie them four feet apart where you tied the fenders.

Step 4 - Lower the Fenderboard

Carefully lift the board over the handrails and lower it in front of the fenders. The board should rest in the vertical center of the fenders for the best protection. Adjust the hanging lines as needed.

Step 5 - Fasten the Cross Ties

To prevent the fenders rolling out from behind the boards, use the included cross-ties to fasten each of the two Fenderboard hanging lines to the opposite fender lines, creating an “X” pattern. For those using the standard rope cross ties, fasten the cross ties loose enough that they don't pull on any of the hanging lines, but tight enough to only leave minimal slack. For those using Snap-Shackle cross ties, just clip the pre-measured segments onto their respective lines. Slide down the cross tie lines / snap shackle lines so they rest on top of the fenders and board.

De-Rigging and Storage

To de-rig, first undo both cross ties. Then, pull the board back over the handrail and onto the deck before untying both hanging lines. For storage, we recommend owners wrap the hanging lines around the boards like so:

If using our Fenderboards bag, place the board in the bag, and loosely lay the hanging lines on top of the board for storage. For both storage methods, there is no need to remove the board's hanging lines from the recessed cutout.
